The Ministry formally handed over the DRIVE Gelephu Flood Protection Project (GFPP) to Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) on 02 October 2026.

The opening ceremony and handing over were graced by Hon’ble Lyonpo Chandra Bdr. Gurung, Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Dasho Secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, H.E. Marisa Gerards, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands to India, Nepal and Bhutan, and the Managing Director, Sustainability and Environment Cluster, Office of the Governor, GMC. The ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry, Gelephu Thromde Administration and the GMC Authority.

The project reduces flood risk and strengthens riverbank stability along vulnerable stretches of Gelephu, protecting life, property and critical infrastructure from recurring flood hazards. It comprises four flood protection interventions along the Mau River, Shetikhari Tributary, Thewar River and Jogi stream, and was financed equally by the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Government of the Netherlands, in coordination with Invest International Public Partnership (IIPP) Netherlands and the Coasts, Deltas and Rivers (CDR) Consultant
